Government and non-government organizations have started organizing group activities that can serve as a recreation for the masses. Sports, cultural activities and social gatherings are some of the community organized recreational activities. Clubs and recreation centers offer a variety of recreational programs for people of different ages and varied interests.

Recreational activities can be of two types. “Passive recreation” involves activities like strolling on the beach or taking a walk on the riverside while “active recreational activities” are about engaging in adventure sports and outdoor games.

Recreational activities give us an opportunity to spend time alone or with family, friends, co-workers or activity partners. They give us an opportunity to “meet new people, make new friends and socialize!” Some of the recreational activities help us in developing leadership qualities and interpersonal skills. Although excessive amount of recreation is not advisable, a little amount of recreation on a daily basis is the need of our busy life of today. While being a part of today’s rat race, and struggling to stay in the competition, it is also necessary to take some time for ourselves. Recreational activities serve this very need of the human mind.
