7 tell-tale Signs a Relationship is Over (part 1)

Signs a relationship is over can come in a number of ways. Some are quite obvious, while others are a little more subtle. But, if your boyfriend or girlfriend decides to call it quits and wants to end the romance, coping with the break up is never easy.

However, there are certain signs of a break up that can help you know when your relationship is over, or is about to happen.

So, over the next few weeks you’ll find a series of posts providing you with seven common warning signs that you and your partner may be close to breaking up.

Signs Of A Failing Relationship.

#1 – Friends Become Pawns In Relationship Strife!

It’s often said that a woman will have many boyfriends come in and out of her life, but her core group of girlfriends will be there always. Most men, on the other hand, are less bonded with their “guy” friends, but, in general, the same principle holds true.

So, one of the first ways you can tell if your partner is unhappy, and knowing when a relationship is over, is to keep a close eye on how his or her friends treat you. Are they still happy to see you, or are they becoming less welcoming?

A sure sign when a relationship is over, or in desperate trouble, is if your relationships change quite noticeably with your partner’s close friends.

The reason for this is that when a romantic relationship starts falling apart, these “friend relationships” generally don’t survive, due to the unfortunate fact that friends are often called upon to choose sides. Of course, this could happen even if you are just fighting and the friends are taking sides.

However, if these friendships cease to exist once a crisis is over, it could very well be a strong indication that your significant other could be sharing his or her relationship problems, worries or doubts with them.

Another scenario is where your boyfriend or girlfriend makes a definite effort to make your mutual friends “his” or “hers”! They want any friends you have in common to take their side and not yours. Your partner doesn’t want to lose them, even when he or she dumps you!

(A word of advice, if you have any mutual friends you don’t want to lose in a break up with your partner, you need to foster the relationships as well.)

How To Tell When Your Relationship Is Over.

In addition to the above, a good indication of how to know if a relationship is over or not, is if your partner spends more time in the company of their friends instead of being with you. If he or she wants to go out with their friends over you, more often than before, they may be building their post-breakup relationships so that they have people in their lives when you are no longer on the scene.

Worse still, it could also be that they just don’t want to spend time with you any more, they’ve lost interest in being with you!

Or, they have fallen out of love with you. This is a sign of avoidance! If your boyfriend or girlfriend is finding ways to stay away from you, it’s a clear sign that your relationship is doomed!

Now, while all the above mentioned signs obviously suggest that your relationship is over, whatever you do, don’t misinterpret your partner’s actions. Spending more time with friends could simply indicate that he or she feels the need to strengthen their ties with people outside the relationship they have with you. Nothing more, nothing less.

Perhaps it may be wise to remember the old saying – “Don’t assume anything. It has a habit of making an “ass” out of “u” and “me”!”

So, to sum up the first of seven signs that the relationship is over, be aware of what happening with your partner’s close friends and your mutual acquaintances. Are they avoiding you? Do they seem to be taking sides against you? Are they becoming a bigger and more important part of your boyfriend’s or girlfriend’s life?

Don’t know? Well, find out before you jump to conclusions and get answers to all your questions. Communication is the key to deciding whether or not these are true or false signs a relationship is over.
